Understanding the Dashboard

Walking you through the ins and outs of the Admin Dashboard!

Written by Samera Shim

The Dashboard is your command center. It's the first thing you land on as an Admin, and it pulls everything happening across your school into one real-time view: who's arriving, who's in the halls, which rooms are active, and your hardware status. Like Reports, the Dashboard is visible only to Admins and Super Admins, so teachers and general staff won't see it.

Across the top, you'll find the row of colored Reports buttons (Arrivals, Cards, Taps, Pass, Tardy, Club). Learn more about Reports here.

Period Timer

The ring in the top-left tells you exactly where you are in the day: the current rotation day and period (for example, B day 路 4th period) and a live countdown of the time left (16:31 left). MOOV syncs with your school's bell schedule, including rotating A day/B day cycles, so it updates automatically throughout the day without anyone needing to set anything.

Taps

A live count of taps for the day, along with the number of unique students behind them (e.g., 25 taps from 5 students) and a small chart of activity over time. It's your quick check on how busy the building is right now.

Rooms

A big-picture view of every room in your school, laid out as a grid so you can take in your whole building at once. Each square is a room, giving you a live, at-a-glance map of your space. Click View all to open the full Rooms view.

New to setting rooms up, or need to add, edit, or organize them? Check out this article here.

Kiosk

Shows the most recent tap in your building, including the student's name, the room, and the time. If you see a Blocked label (as in Bart Simpson 路 Room 525 路 Blocked), it means that the tap wasn't authorized for that room, and the student tapped somewhere they aren't permitted.

Attendance Saves

A running, real-time feed of attendance activity as it happens. For example, "Ms. Krabappel saved their attendance" or "Lisa Simpson was marked present for 2nd period." Click View all for the full history. This is your live confirmation that teachers are actually saving attendance across the building.

MOOV Hack: Glance at Attendance Saves a few minutes into each period to spot classes that haven't been saved yet, a gentle nudge to those teachers keeps your attendance data clean and on time.

Unauthorized Taps

A count and trend of taps that landed somewhere they shouldn't - specifically, a student tapping into a room they aren't scheduled for during that period. It's the fastest way to catch students who may be wandering, and it pairs naturally with the Kiosk widget's Blocked status.

Tap Store

Rewards students can redeem with their MOOV Coins, such as snacks, school merch, and other goodies your building sets up to reward showing up and being on time. (There's a lot more to the store, so we've given it its own deep-dive! Click here.)

Frequent Fliers

A sortable leaderboard of different categories by student, comparing last week vs. this week with a per-day average, sorted highest to lowest. It's the quickest way to spot students who may be spending a lot of time out of class. Learn more about this in the reports article.

Heatmap

A full-screen, live Building Heatmap. Each room appears as a tile (it's customizable, so you can resize it to create your building map), and the colors indicate how many students are in each room right now, so you can see exactly where your building is busy in real time. It's a powerful at-a-glance view for monitoring movement and shareable

Buddy Block

Think of this as a meetup blocker. You flag students who shouldn't be together, and MOOV enforces it: if Student A is in the halls, Student B is blocked from being out at the same time. It's a simple, automatic way to keep students who you'd rather not have meeting up from ending up in the hallway together.

MOOV Hack: Set up Buddy Block pairs proactively after an incident, rather than waiting for the next one. Because the block is automatic, it quietly does the work in the background without you having to monitor the halls yourself.

Readers

A live health check on your MOOV reader devices, showing how many are online and reporting in the last couple of minutes (e.g., 82/82). If readers show as offline, it's usually a power or network issue on that device. You can check the device and reach out to MOOV support if it doesn't come back online. You can access the MAC address, which AP the device is connected to, and whether the device is connected via PoE or Wi-Fi.
